Stress Relief And Better Health And Vitality – The Drug-Free Way!

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

One would deduce that if you want your entire body to function at its maximum potential to deal with stress in the best way possible, you need a nervous system that is CLEAR of any and all interference.

That is where Chiropractic comes in!

Subluxations are vertebrae that have misaligned and cause nerve interference.

“Stress is directly or indirectly related to 80-90% of all disease”
Guide to Stress Reduction, Mason, John L. Ph.D, 1997, p.116

When the spine and nervous system are clear of interference, the body and all its systems can function at its maximum performance.

And that’s why Chiropractic has become an essential part of many people’s lives.

It’s the new drug-free approach to stress management!

Your body’s ability to adapt to an ever changing environment is what ultimately leads to optimal health and happiness

Scientists in Chicago have discovered new clues into what role the brain plays in chronic back pain (CBP). The investigators used magnetic resonance imaging brain scans to compare the morphology of 26 individuals with CBP with 26 pain-free control subjects.

According to the report “patients with CBP showed 5-11% less neocortical gray matter volume than control subjects. The magnitude of this decrease is equivalent to the gray matter volume lost in 10-20 years of normal aging. The decreased volume was related to pain duration, indicating a 1.3 cm(3) loss of gray matter for every year of chronic pain.”

The study also showed that CBP patients had decreased gray matter density. “Our results imply that CBP is accompanied by brain atrophy and suggest that the pathophysiology of chronic pain includes thalamocortical processes,” conclude the authors.
Journal of Neuroscience – November 2004;24:10410-5.

“…for the management of low-back pain, chiropractic care is the most effective treatment, and it should be fully integrated into the government’s health care system.”

Disc Herniations Reduced by Chiropractic Adjustments
Cervical and lumbar disc herniations are commonly encountered in clinical chiropractic practice. Clinical studies and case reports have addressed the efficiency of chiropractic management for disc herniations. Imaging studies have shown disc re-absorption on follow-up CT or MRI subsequent to non-operative medical care. Of the 27 patients studied by repeat MRI, VAS and physical exam, 22 or 80 percent had a good clinical outcome. This consisted of reduced VAS scores below 2 and resolution of the patient’s radicular pain. Seventeen of these 27 patients, or 63 percent, not only had a good clinical outcome but had evidence of resolution or reduction of disc herniations evident on repeated MRI.
Ben Eliyahu, DJ. “MRI Study of 27 Patients Receiving Chiropractic Treatment for Cervical and Lumbar Disc Herniations.” A paper presented at the Conference Proceedings of the Chiropractic Centennial Foundation, Washington, DC, July 1995

When you get adjusted, you remove interference to the master control system of the body – the nervous system – thereby enabling the body AND brain to function at their maximum potential.

What are you waiting for? Give chiropractic a chance – It works!

Did You Know?… It’s All in the Family

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

One smart way to care for yourself is to care for your relationships.
Healthy family connections and positive social support go a long way in helping you maintain and improve your physical
and mental health. (And these strong relationships help make life more meaningful and fun.) So, improve your health by taking small steps toward communicating, connecting, and creating healthy bonds with friends and family. Did you know a shared dinner satisfies more than just your child’s rumbling stomach? It’s been found children who eat more meals with their families report significantly less substance abuse and better overall mental health than those who eat fewer meals with their families. So, take small steps toward gathering the family to feast. Even if it’s simple food, the time together —
not fancy fare — is what’s important. Is breakfast less rushed than dinner? Then, talk over toast. Did you know there
might be a real “love connection” between kindness and heart health? Maybe your heart really can be filled with (or at
least fueled by) love? Men with known or suspected coronary artery disease who answered “yes” to the question, “Does
your wife show you her love?” had significantly less chest pain than men who answered “no.” Everybody wins when you
take small steps today. So hug your hubby, smooch your sweetie, cuddle your kids. Tuck “you’re special” notes in pockets or lunchboxes. At the very least, say “I love you.”

“If You Haven’t Exercised In Two Days, You’re Increasing Your Risk Of Obesity, Diabetes And Heart Disease.”

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Studies have shown that just two days of physical inactivity can have very detrimental effects on your body and health. How?
According to the study performed at the University of Missouri, just two days of not exercising is enough to affect your body’s efficient use of insulin, which can lead to diabetes and other related diseases.
Researchers conducted a study on rats and found insulin sensitivity decreased the longer the rats stayed inactive.
Don’t Ever Stop A Rat From Running…
The rats were allowed to run on a wheel for three weeks. After that time, the rats were stopped. Just two days after the rats stopped running, the amount of sugar taken into their muscles in response to insulin decreased by about one-third.
Researcher David Kump said, “Insulin works by taking glucose, or blood sugar, out of the blood stream and into the muscle to be used for energy. The less efficient your insulin is the greater risk you have of diabetes, heart disease, obesity and hypertension.”
Kump also added, “Everyone is looking at the benefits of exercise, but we are looking at the consequences of stopping that exercise. People already know that exercise is good for them. This shows that, within a very short time frame of inactivity, the insulin does not work as well and might have negative effects.”
I love this study for several reasons.
Most importantly, it has been obvious for a long time, exercise is good for you. I don’t think you really need a study to tell you that. Sometimes looking at something with a little common sense and reasoning goes a long way. Like, did we really need to research to know cigarettes were bad for us? Yeah, big tobacco companies lied, but did you really believe inhaling a burning weed for 30 years wasn’t going to do something bad to you?
Anyway, it’s nice to have hard-core black-and-white proof. Especially when the results are so dramatic and can be so life changing.
What I also like about this study is that it shows the consequences of NOT exercising.
There is no doubt in my mind – exercising makes you healthier and live longer. I also have no doubt that if you do not exercise – it will CAUSE diseases such as diabetes and heart disease (and probably many more they just haven’t proven yet) and shorten your life.

Swedish Scientists Discover How To Help Men Live Longer And Healthier Lives? Wait ‘Til WOMEN Hear About This!

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

If you are a man and want a simple way to live longer, or if you’re a woman who wants to know YOUR role in a man’s longevity, then you are going to find this very interesting.
But first, here’s a little question. If a man is given the choice between brains and beauty – which do you think he will choose?
Do we really have to debate this? Sure, not everyone places the same importance on beauty. But it doesn’t take much to look around and see what’s going on in Hollywood, etc.
Looks are important. And not just for women. In fact, there is a study that shows attractive people make more money for the same jobs than unattractive people.
This held true for both men and women – and in all kinds of jobs. Good looking doctors and lawyers make more than not so good looking doctors and lawyers. Should it be this way? No. But…It Is What It Is! And, there is NOTHING anyone can do about it.
So… life goes on…
Now, about this “how men can live longer” thing. It’s really quite simple. According to an October 18,
2009 article in The Sunday Times, Swedish scientists have discovered men probably should be paying more attention to the brains of the women they marry… than their bodies.
This is because scientists found, according to the article, “that long life and good health have nothing to do with a man’s education and everything to do with his wife’s. Men married to smart women live longer – simple.”
It’s believed the key is a woman’s ability to process information about healthy lifestyles and passing it on to her spouse. In other words, smarter women tend to ban their husbands from eating 2 buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken and a Big Mac as a nightly bedtime snack.
Moderate exercise is usually a topic of frequent discussion – until the man knows what’s best for him and does what he’s told!
So, at least according to this article, a man’s future is clear: IF you want to live a long, healthy life… it’s… Brains Over Beauty!

I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday! Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping.
