Discover Which Common Treatments Have Made Thousands of Back Pain Sufferers Worse and In More Pain

Monday, February 28th, 2011
If you’ve ever tried a treatment for your severe back pain in spite of knowing in your gut or back of your mind that it was NOT going to work…this article is for you.
You’re part of growing group of San Diego and surrounding area severe back pain sufferers who continue to give their all in trying to find a solution to their severe and debilitating back and disc pain…sometimes even going against their better judgment all for the promise of being able to get back to a “normal and active life.”
This is what is referred to as the great back and disc pain hoax. It’s the promise of relief that either defy science, common sense, or both. The saddest part of this hoax is that in virtually in every case the promises made by doctors and therapists are not made with malice or bad intentions. Quite the contrary, they’re made with a deep desire to help. And unfortunately that desire sometimes results in excessive enthusiasm which leads to promises that can’t be fulfilled.
Some people turn to spine surgery in the hopes of eliminating their back pain. But surgery can be risky and you run the risk of long term disability. Others opt for injections of Cortisone and Epidurals for short term relief but they soon discover that it just masks the problem by covering up the symptoms while the condition worsens.
Low back pain is potentially debilitating and will strike millions of Americans this year. As a result, many of them will suffer for the rest of their lives due to misinformation and inappropriate care!  That’s the bad news. The good news is that you don’t have to continue suffering! If you suffer from arthritis, visit www.ArthritisHealthCenter.com to find out how to eliminate your pain. If you suffer from back pain due to spinal stenosis, disc problems, sciatica, or disc degeneration, then keep reading. If you’re among the millions of Americans with lower back pain, especially with pain radiating down the legs, you may have a serious condition called disc herniation. Up until now there has not been a treatment available which provides a successful answer for pain as result of bulging and herniated discs, degenerative disc disease and failed back surgery. Sometimes chiropractic is an option. But there’s a new treatment you might want to check out before committing to surgery.
Low back problems are a common cause of disability. And to make things worse, despite various treatments of medication, heat, ice, exercise, manipulation, physical therapy, rest, acupuncture, and others, many people are still suffering. Often, back pain sufferers resort to spinal decompression surgery, which can have devastating results. The introduction of advanced spinal decompression, cold laser therapy and arthritis relief therapy offers back pain victims a safe effective treatment for eliminating their back pain once and for all.
Imagine how your life would instantly change if you discovered the solution to your back pain. The powerful new space age technology that has the potential to be that solution for you is advanced drx 9000 non-surgical spinal decompression.

Laptop Use and Testosterone Showing Some Links

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Many patients in San Diego come to New Century Spine Centers to see a chiropractor for their back pain from sitting at the computer for too long. But here’s another problem from sitting at the computer for too long that may not be related to your back. A November 8, 2010 article published by Reuter’s reports placing a laptop computer on your lap might be, “cooking your gonads.” According to the article, “It turns out, unsurprisingly, that sitting with a computer on your lap will crank up the temperature of your nether regions, which could affect sperm quality.”

Authors of  a study  in  the journal of Fertility and Sterility,  say the only way you can  prevent this is by putting  your laptop  on  a desk  or  somewhere besides your  lap.  Even using a lap pad, the temperature quickly rises above the acceptable range.

“Millions and millions of men are using laptops now, especially those in the reproductive age range,” said Dr.  Yefim Sheynkin, a Urologist at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, who led the new study.  ”Within 10 or 15 minutes, their scrotal temperature is already above what we consider safe, but they don’t feel it,” he added.

On another interesting note, you won’t want to miss this one. There seems to be a television commercial about it every two minutes.  It’s either Viagra or Cialis for “performance” issues, or the new buzz-word, “Low T” for low testosterone.  Well, here’s something very important you should know about testosterone and sexual problems…

According to an October 29, 2010 Reuters Health article, authors of a new study say, “we need a lot less testosterone for sexual function than people think.” Dr. Frederick Wu, a hormone expert at the University of Manchester, is quoted as saying, “Most people with erectile problems do not have hormone problems, but often have blockage in their penis arteries.” They also state that very low levels of testosterone can cause a problem, but they are not sure what this level is.

New Study: Texting And Social Networking Linked To Health Risks?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Modern technology can be wonderful.   It has never been easier to stay in touch and communicate with friends and family.  With texting and social networking, anyone can communicate messages, pictures, internet links and videos within seconds.
But Is There A Down Side To All This Texting And Social Networking? According to a November 10, 2010 CNN article, “A new study by the Case Western Reserve School of Medicine links poor health behaviors – including smoking, drinking and sexual activity — to hyper texting and hyper networking [teenagers].”
The article defines “hyper texting” as sending more than 120 texts per school day, and “hyper networking” as spending more than 3 hours per school day on social networking sites (like Facebook). According to the article, the study found nearly 20% of Midwestern teens surveyed were “hyper texters.”
“Hyper texter” teens are:
• 2 times more likely to have tried alcohol.
• Nearly 3.5 times more likely to have had sex.
• 40 percent more likely to have tried cigarettes.
• 41 percent more likely to have used illicit drugs.
• 43 percent more likely to be binge drinkers.
• 55 percent more likely to have been in a physical fight.
• 90 percent more likely to report four or more sexual partners.
The article also stated 11.5% Midwestern teens are “hyper networkers.” They are:
• 60 percent more likely to report four or more sexual partners.
• 62 percent more likely to have tried cigarettes.
• 69 percent more likely to be binge drinkers.
• 69 percent more likely to have had sex.
• 79 percent more likely to have tried alcohol.
• 84 percent more likely to have used illicit drugs.
• 94 percent more likely to have been in a physical fight.
Here’s an important note from the author of the study:  ”We are not saying texting causes these behaviors…  We can recognize that these kinds of connections… may be facilitating or enabling these kinds of behaviors, but we certainly can’t think of (the online connections) as causing them.” So, if  your  teenager  is a hyper  texter or  hyper networker, taking away their phone or internet access may not reduce their risks in the above categories but they  are an indicator that you  should  pay  more attention to your child’s activities.

Which Exercise Is Best For Losing Weight?

Sunday, February 13th, 2011
Most people already know the importance of exercise for a healthy life, but still fail to get started with a proper regime and routine for themselves. It is a well documented and well accepted fact that exercise is vital and essential for ensuring that all bodily systems and functions work properly. People who do not exercise on a regular basis suffer from various ailments and diseases as they grow older, and also have to face the problem of obesity.
So what exactly is it about exercise that makes possible all these wonderful benefits, especially when it comes to burning fat. We need energy to move and stay alive. It is the basis for all the things we do. The energy source supplied to your body comes from the foods we eat, which fall into three types: carbohydrates, protein and fats. For these food to function as energy, they must first be converted into a form the body can use, namely adenosine triphosphate or ATP. Our body needs a continuous supply of ATP in order to perform any type of physical activity. It can get the ATP from three sources: your muscles, aerobic metabolism, and anaerobic metabolism.
There are 2 kinds of cardio exercises: aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic (fat burning process which uses carbohydrates, fat and oxygen to produce the ATP) exercise are activities such as jogging, speed walking, bicycling, swimming or any activity that raises your heart rate for an extended amount of time. Aerobic exercise causes your body to start the beneficial process of aerobic metabolism. This process uses the fat stored in your body, therefore starting the desired state of fat burning.
Anaerobic exercise on the other hand, uses anaerobic metabolism, which is fat burning process in the absence of oxygen. One common anaerobic exercise that most people recognize is resistance training which can be defined as any exercise in which force must be applied to move an external object. The first type of resistance training that comes to mind for many is of course weight lifting. However, the use of one’s own body weight, thera-bands and isometrics are also forms of resistance training. Resistance training helps you burn fat when anaerobic metabolism uses carbohydrates to create ATP, during your resting period. Basal metabolic rate or BMR is the minimum caloric requirement needed to sustain life when at rest and can be responsible for burning up to 70% of the total calories expended. This value varies, however, and is dependent on such factors as genetics, gender, age, diet and exercise.
Where resistance training plays a part in this process pertains to your lean body mass. Lean body mass burns more calories than the fat on your body. Resistance training builds more lean mass such as muscles and as a result increases your BMR. If you ever saw the headline “Burn Fat While You Sleep” and the product doesn’t involve drugs, then this in all likelihood is what they’re referring to. So if you want to burn fat while you sleep, you need to perform resistance exercises to build more lean muscle mass.Lose weight. Visit www.BackCareTreatment.com

7 Myths About Catching The Common Cold

Sunday, February 6th, 2011

Hey, I’m not saying that everything you’ve been taught as a kid about the cold was false. I’m just saying that many of the things you were taught about getting sick may have been total myths. I’m sure you’ve probably heard your mom use a variation of this a few million times growing up: “Put a coat on or you’ll catch a cold.” Well, much like when she told you that you’re the most special kid in the entire world, she was wrong. In fact, it turns out a lot of the things we’ve heard about catching the common cold are myths. Yes, it’s true that you should wash your hands a lot in order to avoid getting sick, but you can forget about many of the commonly held beliefs I’ve listed below.

MYTH #1: Going outside with wet hair will make you sick. Going outside in winter with wet hair is a great way to get cold, but it won’t increase your odds of catching a cold. I know it sounds a little confusing, but read it a few times and you’ll understand. Whether you’re inside or out, wet or dry, viruses can still find a way into your body. During the winter months we’re indoors more often, which allows for easier passage of germs from one person to another. And since we’re around sick people in confined spaces, the probability that we’ll get the cold goes up. It has nothing to do with forgetting to dry your hair.

MYTH #2: Feed a cold, starve a fever. Do you think a cold virus is going to get so full from eating that it dies? While a cold or fever may cause loss of appetite, your immune system still needs nutrients to function correctly. And your body needs absolutely needs fluids when you’re sick since sickness tends to dehydrate you. Listen to your body to see what it really needs.

MYTH #3: Vitamin C is a cold killer. Daily intake of vitamin C is a good idea, but it really doesn’t have any cold fighting powers. Vitamin C can help prevent wrinkles, heart disease, cancer, and lessens risk of Alzheimer’s — but it won’t prevent your nose from being runny. It can help the immune system, but once you’ve gotten that cold it just may be too late.

MYTH #4: You can sweat out a cold. Piling on layers of sweaters while you’re lying miserable on the couch will do primarily one thing. It will make you sweaty. But bundling up has never been proven to flush a cold virus out of your system any faster than not sweating it out. The common cold is caused by more than 200 different viruses that can take days or even weeks to leave your body. Since there’s no cure, you’re stuck waiting it out.

MYTH #5: Echinacea kills the cold virus. A study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine tested more than 700 participants at the University of Wisconsin. It showed that echinacea was no more effective than a placebo at shortening the length of a cold. This doesn’t mean though that it doesn’t work. It just means that the research may say otherwise.

MYTH #6: A flu shot can give you the flu. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention claims the vaccine can reduce the chances of a healthy person getting the flu by 70 percent to 90 percent. They don’t provide stats for how likely it is to get sick from the shot because theoretically it’s impossible. The vaccine contains only dead flu viruses. If you’re already infected when you get the shot, it can take up to 24 hours for symptoms to emerge. In this case, it’s not the vaccine’s fault. It was just bad timing.

MYTH #7: Winter weather can give you a cold. Many people think that most colds are caught in the winter. In fact, most colds are caught in the Spring/Fall seasons and not Winter at all. This is because the virus becomes much more active in those seasons and seems to become largely dormant in the winter.
