Is Cutting Your Risk Of These 4 Deadly Diseases In Half Really This Easy?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

There is new research that shows a simple way that you may be able to decrease your risk of breast cancer, colon cancer, multiple sclerosis and Type 1 diabetes by a whopping 50%! We’ve all heard it, but who really lives by these wise words “An ounce of…” in the first place? Maybe we are all just a little lazy and like to take the easy way out, at least most of the time?

Come on – you are amongst friends – you can admit it! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? Maybe “cures” are “sexier” than simply preventing the mess in the first place? Or, maybe it’s because “prevention” can be a pain in the you know what? Always finding and preparing the right foods can be time consuming and expensive.

Exercising is exercising! It’s no mistake the word “work” is in workout! But, what if there was an easy way to be healthier than you are right now? What if there was a simple way to decrease your risk of 4 deadly diseases by 50% that took almost no time and was inexpensive… Would You Do It? Well, according to a new study, there may be. Now, this is not a substitute for eating right, exercising, reducing stress and getting check-ups. But, it is something everyone should look into because it might help you a great deal.

Here’s what this is all about: The current government recommendation for Vitamin D intake is 400- 600 international units (IU) per day. 400 IU was found to be the minimum amount of Vitamin D needed to prevent rickets over a century ago. But “minimum” and “optimum” are two very different things. Researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, have reported that markedly higher intake of Vitamin D is needed to reach blood levels that can prevent or markedly cut the incidence of breast cancer and several other major diseases than originally thought. The results were published on February 21 in the journal Anticancer Research.

According to a EurikAlert press release on February 22, 2011, “We found that daily intakes of Vitamin D by adults in the range of 4000-8000 IU are needed to maintain blood levels of Vitamin D metabolites in the range needed to reduce, by about half the risk, several diseases; breast cancer, colon cancer, multiple sclerosis, and Type 1 diabetes,” said Cedric Garland, DrPH, Professor of Family and Preventive Medicine at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. “I was surprised to find that the intakes required to maintain Vitamin D status for disease prevention were so high – much higher than the minimal intake of Vitamin D of 400 IU/day that was needed to defeat rickets in the 20th century. I was not surprised by this,” said Robert P. Heaney, MD, of Creighton University, a distinguished biomedical scientist who has studied Vitamin D needs for several decades. “This result was what our dose-response studies predicted, but it took a study such as this, of people leading their everyday lives, to confirm it.”

The studies also said only about 10% of people have this new appropriate level of Vitamin D in their blood – and these are mostly people who work outdoors. As a chiropractor in San Diego at New Century Spine Centers, we regularly help people with different ailments. By educating our patients on proper healthcare, we aid them in making their own informed choices.

Tip Of The Month – Tips To Make Things Last Longer And Save Your Hard-Earned Money… Times are tough. The economy is bad. Use these simple tips to make what you have last longer, save money, and make your life easier and more secure…

Very few people have

money to burn these days. Most are just trying to make ends meet. Too many are really

struggling to keep their home and feed their family. What many people don’t understand is

just how large of an impact a handful of small changes can make. For example, according to, “If your home is as little as 5 to 10 years old, you likely have one

of the 46 million under-insulated homes in the U.S., according to the Harvard University School of Public Health. Adding more insulation is easy. Plus, insulation is one of the lowest cost options for improving the energy efficiency of your home. It pays off fast and keeps paying off with better comfort and energy savings foras long as you own your home.” Free Guide To Save You Money – If you go to, you can download a guide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help you make your home energyefficient and save money for years and years. The site even has an “energy savings calculator” you can use tofind out an estimate of how much you will save by making your home energy efficient. Decreasing both heatand air conditioning bills can really add up. How Your Car Can Save You Money – Another great way to save money is to keep your car in tip top shape. This will not only seriously decrease your odds of a very expensive breakdown in the middle of nowhere… it will save you money for gas, tires, repair bills and your car will last much longer. Keeping your tires properly inflated is extremely important. Underinflated tires cause you to burn more gas and wear out much faster – not to mention safety issues. Rotating tires every 5,000-8,000 miles can dramatically expand the life of your tires. Tires And Pressure? Also, having the right size tires for you car will actually save you money. Smaller tires may be cheaper today, but they will wear much faster and have to be replaced. Keep a tire pressure gauge in your glove compartment and check the pressure at least once a week. Tire pressure gauges are only a few bucks and can be purchased in many stores or gas stations. And make sure you get the oil changed every 3,000 miles and have a mechanic you trust keep you up-to-date on all other scheduled maintenance. Changing the oil routinely is one of the most important things you can do to keep your car running properly for years and years. Keeping up with regular maintenance is always cheaper in the long run than “driving until something breaks.” Ironically, the same is true about your body and health J As a general rule – spend a little to maintain now as opposed to a lot later.

How A Mother Saved Her Newborn Baby Boy When Her Doctor Had Left Him For Dead!

Albert Einstein once said…

“Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.” This profound statement is often completely forgotten in today’s world where everything must be scientifically proven. To some scientists and doctors – if it is not proven in a scientific study published in a peer-reviewed journal – it does not exist.

Then, for those same people, love does not exist, or that feeling you get when you see your first child being born, or take his or her first steps, or graduate from high school, or when you walk your daughter down the aisle. And most definitely, the story you are about to read is impossible. But, guess what?

It Is 100% True And Verifiable!

Let me fill you in on what this story is all about…

Jamie and Emily Ogg were twins born on March 25, 2010. Jamie was tiny – born at just 27 weeks. Their mother, Kate Ogg, made it through 3 days of labor only to have her joy suddenly ripped away. Within minutes after his birth, little Jamie stopped breathing. Doctors worked feverishly in an effort to resuscitate him for 20 minutes. Nothing worked. A doctor turned to Kate and asked if she had chosen a name for her son. She said, “His name is going to be Jamie.”

The doctor already had Jamie wrapped up and said, “Jamie didn’t make it. We’ve lost him.”

Devastated and overwhelmed with grief, Jamie’s parents, Kate and David, were given a moment to hold baby Jamie. This was meant to be time for them to say good-bye to the son they believed was dead.

What Happened Next Defies The Laws Of Medicine

As Kate held Jamie, he would occasionally look like he was gasping for air. Doctors said this was normal for an infant who had just passed away. Just as the last person left the room, little Jamie jumped a little in Kate’s arms. He started gasping more and more. Shortly after that, Jamie opened his eyes! Kate believed Jamie was still alive and called for the doctor. The doctor sent a midwife back in to tell Kate these where just natural reflexes and Jamie was gone. This went on for two hours. Kate called for her doctor twice and both times got the same response. The doctors said there was no possible way he could be alive, but Kate never gave up. Kate and David ignored what their doctor told them and actually began giggling to themselves saying, “What if he lives! We might be the luckiest people on earth!!!” Kate put some breast milk on her finger and Jamie took it. This news got the doctor’s attention. The doctor laid Jamie on the bed and checked him out. He started shaking his head, “I don’t believe it… I don’t believe it.”

What the doctor didn’t believe was that he had been completely wrong. Baby Jamie was alive.

Most premature babies need immediate medical attention. Little Jamie survived after a doctor had pronounced him dead. Some doctors say it was his mother’s touch – her love – that was passed to Jamie and is what saved his life. Others… of course… say there is no proof.

“Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted.”

Winning Health The Natural Way Through Chiropractic Care

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Choosing between good health and great wealth is usually a simple answer. Most people would pick good health. However when asked to define “health,” many would have trouble putting into words what this concept means to us. For some of us health might mean lack of illness, disease and pain. Sometimes to some health means being symptom free. For other individuals good health might mean a greater positive state of being, including strong bones, good posture, white teeth, great body and eyes, strong muscles, appropriate weight, and much more.

We all want want great health. This is very important. Unfortunately, this goal at times is very difficult to reach with a health care system focused primarily on treatment of disease as opposed to prevention of illness. Focusing on symptoms is not the key to health. Though we have extensive research about the illness of the body and therapy of signs and symptoms, we should be focusing on prevention.

In the study of heart patients for example, heart bypasses and angioplasty generally do not address the underlying cause of the heart condition or problem. Many surgeries generally treat the existing problem which can return if the person doesn’t also make a lifestyle change in their daily activity. When patients make comprehensive lifestyle changes consistent with a healthy heart and overall wellness, most patients have a good chance of improving their overall health.

Often times someone is hospitalized with an end-stage disease that has taken years to develop. During previous years the person has eaten unhealthy foods every day. Often a patient may say, “What’s wrong with me, Doctor?” The doctor replies, “I don’t know, we’ll have to run more tests and procedures.”

You can examine the whole person and his or her lifestyle over many years, and the disease will be seen throughout their entire body in various findings. It would generally make more sense to study what causes the body to be healthy as opposed to being ill. In reality, only twenty percent of today’s research is spent on preventative health care and most is spent on the study of disease and illness. Part of the problem might be that it is less lucrative to study prevention than it is to study treatment for illness. There is less money to be made on prevention.

Research examines the factors that help keep the body healthy are becoming increasingly certain of the significance of the mind/body connection as a critical component in health care. This factor is an important reason why many patients are turning to chiropractic health care by chiropractors as part of their health building strategies as opposed to medical care that treats the disease.

Doctors of chiropractic work directly with the mind and body connection for optimum health. The brain contains all the information to run the body correctly and naturally. The entire nervous system is a channel of nerves from the brain to each tissue cell in the body. All functions are controlled by the nervous system. Similarly, the spinal column covers and protects the nervous system from outside damage.

We know that brain functions can be affected unless we keep it safe and free from severe injuries. The same is true for the spinal column and proper nervous system functioning. When the spine is seriously damaged and the spine cord becomes clipped, the body can become paralyzed because the brain can no longer communicate properly with the rest of the body. This principle also applies when damage to the spine is on a lesser scale, resulting in misalignment of spinal bones and pressure on nerve function. Spinal vertebral misalignment results in a partial communication breakdown leading to a partial as opposed to full connection between the mind and body. When this happens, the body loses much of its ability to maintain health and proper functionality.

In addition, lifestyle factors are important in building optimal health. Most of us understand that we need proper rest, proper nutrition, exercise and a positive mental attitude. Unfortunately we may not fully understand the importance of a properly functioning nervous system and spinal column. Building health from within the body is the ultimate path we all must discover for ourselves. It is not something a doctor can give us especially when they are focusing on disease. It is something we give ourselves because healing and health are natural states, and we have the power to control our decisions regardless of the rest.

It was once said by the developer of chiropractic BJ Palmer, “In the future, chiropractic will be valued for its preventative qualities as much as for relieving and adjusting the cause of many problems.” The future is now because chiropractic care is no longer an alternative care but the mainstream choice of millions who have turned to chiropractic doctors for natural health and wellness care. Many chiropractic doctors including the best chiropractors at New Century Spine Centers of San Diego are now covered by many insurance companies.

Doctors of chiropractic are committed to educating their patients about healthy lifestyle and their patients express appreciation for it. To learn more, those interested in getting a special report can go to for more information. We need to be involved with our health by asking the right questions and beginning our own quest to discover just what “good health” truly is.
